Want to help out at Costume-Con 26?

    Costume-Con needs you!

    Posted: January 30, 2008

Costume-Con 26 is shaping up to be one of the largest ever, which means we'll need lots of help to pull it off. If you'd like to lend your talents to the crew, we'll be listing our needs here.

We do offer a discounted membership rate of $50 to folks who put in the time to work as staff. If you'd simply care to lend a hand in a more casual manner, we'll happily accept your volunteer efforts that way, as well.

Costume Con 26 follows the World Con model for volunteers and staff. Which means all staff and volunteers are paid members. If the convention makes enough money, staff and volunteers are reimbursed, according the amount of hours they put into helping run the convention.

To inquire about working on staff or volunteering in a more casual manner, drop an email to volunteer@cc26.org and let our volunteer coordinator know how you'd like to help.

    Help Wanted: Convention Operations

    Posted: March 29, 2008

ConOps needs a few good fen to help keep the con running smoothly. We'll be running the office and serving as a communications nexus for the whole dang thing, plus sending rovers out to make sure that there are no little pre-situations waiting to bloom into trouble. We prefer to nip potential problems in the bud; the problem with trouble shooting is that trouble shoots back, after all. At con, you'll be able to identify us by our Operating Room Scrubs. We're looking for folks who prefer working solutions to technical victories, who have good people skills and how think well on their feet. If you think this is you, email Sarah Goodman at mailto:ConOps@cc26.org and tell her why.

    Help Wanted: Technical Crew

    Posted: February 19, 2008

Tech crew will need a LOT of help for loading in, set-up, and tear-down.
    - Day of load-in we'll need people at my warehouse (on the other side of the airport) in the morning to load the truck and trailer. The same crew will unload it at the hotel, and get it all into the ballroom.
    - We will also need be meeting the lighting truss rigging company, in order to get their truck unloaded (as we are paying them by the hour for technical services, and the clock starts ticking the moment their truck touched the DTSJ loading dock).
    - On the last day, we need a big crew to tear everything back down, pack it up, and get it back in the trucks, and then to unload at the warehouse.

Interested parties should send messages to volunteers@cc26.org.

    Help Wanted: Masquerade Stage Crew

    Posted: February 19, 2008

We are looking for volunteers to work the stage area. This includes getting people to the stage (after handoff from the den moms), helping contestants up the stairs, and working as catchers in front of the stage. We can use some volunteers that have experience, especially masquerade experience, but we can also take inexperienced people. We can provide the training you need. You must have a black shirt (short or long sleeved is OK) and black pants.

We can use volunteers who just want to work one show, though we would really love to have volunteers who would work all the shows.

Interested parties should send messages to volunteers@cc26.org.

Help Wanted: Recording Secretary for Pre-Conference Meetings

    Posted: February 11, 2008

Costume-Con 26 is looking for someone to act as recording secretary for our committee meetings in February, March and April.

The secretary needs to attend, take, and transcribe the notes for the CC26 general staff meetings at the Doubletree San Jose Hotel on February 23rd, March 15th, and April 19th, 2008.

The notes should pay special attention to action items and deadlines that people need to meet, and to documents that they need to review.

The ability to summarize as necessary (and know what not to include) is very desirable. Notes should be transcribed and sent to the Costume-Con 26 staff list within 72 hours. Good spelling and grammar skills are required.

If you, or someone you know is available and interested, this is a way to qualify for the staff rate membership by doing work in advance of the conference weekend.

    Interested parties should contact volunteers@cc26.org.
Feel free to repost this notice in its entirety.

    Thanks!

    Kevin Roche

    Help Wanted: Green Room Staff

    Posted: January 30, 2008

Costume-Con 26 will have three shows, the two Masquerades and the Parallel Dimensions in Design show, all of which will need staff in the Green Rooms.

If you are interested, Byron Connell, our Green Room Head, is looking for you! Email greenroom@cc26.org and volunteer@cc26.org to let him know.

More details about working in the Green Room from Byron:

The Green Room needs volunteers for all three shows: SF & F, Parallel Dimensions in Design, and Historical. Most volunteers working in the Green Room would be there from at least two hours before curtain time until the end of the show. It's a great opportunity to see costumes close up and to meet costumers who aren't busy rehearsing or twitching from nerves. If we have a video feed to the Green Room, staff will be able to see at least some of the stage presentations.

Each show probably will need a staff of six to ten. A volunteer can sign up to work one, two, or all three shows. We can use persons to work as Den Moms, Mother's Helpers, and Check-in Clerks. Experience is helpful; however, it's not necessary as we brief the Green Room staff on what their jobs entail. Mother's helpers, especially, are general gophers and need no experience, so the job is ideal for a first-time participant who wants to help to put on the show.
