    Costumed Gatherings

We're planning to offer a number of casual themed social opportunities during Costume-Con 26. There will likely be at least one pool-side event, and we hope to offer times and space for you to organize some of your own

    Informal gatherings in the works

    Posted: March 16, 2008

Costume-Con is as much about socializing as about competing or learning. People are coming from all over North America and even the world to celebrate our shared love of dressing up in funny clothes, so CC26 wants to help you have a good time!

We're making space for casual gatherings of like-minded folks, usually with a costume theme (admired, but not required). These events could be based around a fandom or a historical era or it could be some wacky joke thing. And this will probably be a great photo opportunity (hey, we're costumers, we love pictures of ourselves, right?).

Some that we have in the works already (thanks to your excellent suggestions) include:

    • Frock Flicks podcast recording before a live audience, Friday, 12:30pm-2pm, Gateway Foyer
    • 18th-century salon, Friday, 4pm, Gateway Foyer
    • Steampunk gathering, Saturday, 11am-noon, outside the Mad Science Fair and during judging
    • Asian ball-jointed doll meetup, Saturday, 12:30pm, at the lobby fireplace
    • Pirates take over the hotel bar, Saturday, starting 5pm until the masquerade
    • Hats & jammies breakfast, Sunday morning until 11am, at the Coffee Garden, come down in your PJs & a cool hat
    • 1950s vintage tea party sponsored by Patterns From the Past, on Sunday afternoon in the Con Suite, before the masquerade
    • BPAL perfume meetup, Monday, 1pm-2pm, Gateway Foyer
    • Queen Tatiania & the fairy folk gather for photos
    • Harry Potter fans
    • Japanese costumes
    • Belly dancers
    • Medieval & renaissance gathering
    • Lord of the Rings fans

The con has set aside space for these social affairs, plus we can use public spaces of the hotel, within reason.

Do you like these ideas? Do you have more suggestions or do you have a group that wants to meet up? What day or times do you prefer? Contact gatherings @ to let us know what you want, and we'll see about getting it into the schedule.
